Demand Outpacing Supply for the Fifth Estate

Welcome to the Fifth Estate will be officially released on Tuesday, May 31, but demand has already outpaced the initial short print run of the book.  Amazon notified buyers early this morning that their shipment may be a few days late.

When print runs were considered for this book, it was treated as the second social media book by me, in essence replacing Now Is Gone. This was done even though it is for all intents and purposes a completely new book, albeit on the same topic.  This decision was based on the performances of 2nd edition and paperback book sales by folks like Chris Brogan and Brian Solis.  Of course, Now Is Gone sold significantly fewer copies than Trust Agents or Engage, but Bartleby Press applied roughly the same percentages.  As a small publisher, Bartleby does not have the luxury of having thousands of books sitting in its warehouse space.

Happily demand for Welcome to the Fifth Estate has already exceeded expectations (see early reviews).  There are still some copies in the initial print run, and they are being shipped to Amazon. But it is tight, so tight that after posting this update, I am going to the post office to send back to Bartleby more than 30 of my 50 complimentary copies of the book so that they too can be made available for shipment.

The good news is Bartleby has already ordered more print copies, AND the Kindle edition should be filed with Amazon by week's end. I am continuing to podcast the book for free. Still if this has inconvenienced anyone, please email me at geoffliving [at] me.com with your proof of purchase.  I will be happy to send a complimentary PDF copy as an interim placeholder.
