IgniteDC: Digital Sisterhood for DC Women Entrepreneurs
Ignite DC 8 is coming up on October 20. This fall's Ignite has a robust line up of fantastic sessions and speakers.
Ananda Leeke is speaking on Digital Sisterhood for DC Women Entrepreneurs. Leeke is a lawyer turned “Jill of many trades”: innerpreneur, author, artist, coach, and yoga teacher. She is also a speaker and the founder of the Digital Sisterhood Network and Digital Sisterhood Month. Her mission is “Empowering U2BU through creativity coaching, Reiki, self-care, social media, volunteerism, and yoga.”
Q: Why did you choose your session topic?
AL: In 2010, I hosted a DC Women in Social Media panel discussion featuring women entrepreneurs at Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library. During the panel discussion, I was amazed by the many ways women entrepreneurs use the digital space to connect and network, to share information, to have conversations, to build community, to collaborate and generate business opportunities, to advocate for social justice causes, and to mentor each other online and offline. I chose Digital Sisterhood for DC Women Entrepreneurs as my topic because I wanted to highlight and pay tribute to their efforts. I also wanted everyone to know these ladies are my personal sheroes -- women who totally rock!
Q: Why should attendees be excited to hear this (and why this won’t be a full on pitch for your business)?
AL: I think attendees will be excited to hear my talk because it is filled with soundbytes of inspiration that may leave them with a few takeaways they can use to enhance their digital presence in their careers and businesses.
Q: Tell us what you do professionally?
AL: I wear many hats professionally. Some folks call me a “Jill of many trades”: innerpreneur, author, artist, coach, and yoga teacher. I am also a speaker and the founder of the Digital Sisterhood Network and Digital Sisterhood Month. With all of this activity, my professional life is never boring!
Q: What costume are you (or would you) wearing this Halloween and why?
AL:This is going to sound totally geeky! Let me first say I am deeply in love with my smartphone. If I was going to dress up for Halloween, I would be a life size version of my HTC Android smartphone. Also, my costume would honor the amazing work of Cher Wang, a woman entrepreneur and the co-founder and Chairwoman of HTC.
